I was at lunch a few weeks ago with a group of people, many of them, though not all, writers. Of those who are primarily free-lance writers, all were hurting. Business is down, fewer people are contacting them, pay has been cut. It's not pretty out there right now. I have no magic wands to change the situation, but, given that relationship are so vitally important in the business world, especially the self-employed business world, wanted to recommend a great book on improving communication and therefore relationships and business. It's "Take the E Out of EGO and GO!" The authors' theory is business should be fun and fruitful, and you need to lear to communicate and get your ego out of the way. There are -- and this is useful in today's world -- also techniques on turning loss into gain, and how to turn a lemon into lemonade. And it's very readable and funny, with down-to-earth examples.
